The Joe Lurie Peace Corps Scholarship Fund

Joe LurieInternational House fosters cross-cultural understanding for a more peaceful world.  Joe Lurie, the House’s third Executive Director, will be stepping down after almost 20 years in June 2007 and a scholarship fund is being established to honor his dedication and lasting achievements.

The Joe Lurie Peace Corps Scholarship Fund will provide an I-House room and board award to an entering first year RPCV doctoral student at UC Berkeley.  The UC Berkeley Graduate Division will “match” this annually with tuition, fees, and a $5,000 stipend.

See our Giving page for information on how to contribute, or make a gift online now.

The I-House Board voted to devote a portion of 2007 Gala proceeds to this cause. The fund will be the first endowed Returned Peace Corps Volunteer (RPCV) scholarship in the state of California. Read more about it in the article from The Berkeley Daily Planet.
