nternational House's
1997 Celebration and Awards Dinner, held on April 30, was our most
successful fundraising event ever! Over 250 people Ð including House
Board members, prominent business leaders, alumni, and friends of
International House Ð enjoyed an elegant and fun-filled evening which
included impressive performances by multi-talented I-House residents.
he gala raised over
$82,000 for the Annual Fund and another $5,000 toward a new scholarship
fund in honor of Chang-Lin and Di-Hwa Tien.
e were very pleased
to honor retiring U.C. Chancellor and I-House Board President Chang-Lin
Tien for his distinguished leadership in fostering excellence through
diversity. During the evening's festivities, a special tribute to
Chancellor Tien was made by former National Economic Advisor Dr. Laura
D'Andrea Tyson.

Susie Bechtel were on hand to accept International House's award for the
Bechtel Foundation and family. In accepting the award, Riley Bechtel
said, "Think about some key words about International House, things
like global, information, relationships, diversity, connectivity, and just
progress. Those are words that apply to our company. And we are thrilled
to be able to play a part here and to have a twenty-five year relationship
here."
