IBJ SUPPORTS PROGRAM ON PREPARING GLOBAL CITIZENS
ncreasing global
awareness through social studies curricula and the impact of modern urban
life on multicultural education were the themes of a conference sponsored
by International House and held at the House on November 15. Conference
participants were also introduced to I-House as a resource for
intercultural programs, speakers, and teaching materials.
he conference was the
culmination of a three-year grant awarded to I-House by the Industrial
Bank of Japan Foundation. The grant has helped support the
International/Multicultural Speakers Bureau, a program that brings I-House
residents into classrooms throughout the Bay Area to share their cultures.

Assistant Professor of Education and one of the leading experts in
multicultural education, gave the keynote address to an audience which
included educators, UC faculty, parents, and community members.
