The latest novel by Chitra B. Divakaruni, Sister of My Heart, has become a popular best seller. The Wall Street Journal commends her "sumptuous prose" in a tale of two cousins born in Calcutta on the same day. According to Divakaruni, the novel "explores the particular nature of women's friendship." She teaches at the University of Houston.
Mahmoud Hazem Albakri is Director of Projects for Saud Construction Company in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Donna Dickinson (at left) attended Sunday Supper with student host Hui-Ju Wu from Taiwan and grandson, Christopher Dickinson. Donna was a foreign student advisor from 1964-71 and Program Director from 1971-84. Known for her dynamic leadership, Donna developed the community visits program, Lodestar retreats, and worked with the Faculty Wives Foreign Student Committee and shared her contagious enthusiasm for International House with many community groups.
Maideh Mazda Magee writes, "My husband, Charles, and I are retired and live in Washington, D.C. I am a museum docent and every so often we lecture on cruises on the Volga River. I lecture primarily about art and Russian lacquer boxes. My husband is head of OSCE (Organization of Security and Cooperation in Europe) in Kiev, Ukraine. I visit Kiev often."
John K. Gibson, a research chemist in Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee, and Tomoko Nagai Gibson make their home in Oak Ridge.
Rod Stutt, Joe Strom, Elaine Perley, Bob Trent and Can Altinbay attended an I-House '76 reunion in Maui. Can now lives in Maui.
Laura Kavanau, published her first novel, Triangle of Death, co-authored with her husband -- former international undercover agent Michael Levine. It is a thriller about a real-life criminal organization made up of ex-Nazis in South America. The book will be translated into five languages and is soon to be a major motion picture.
Michel Lapidus is a professor of math at U.C. Riverside and an honorary member of the Research Board of Advisors, American Biography Institute.
Edee Westfall Silva and Jim Silva "were introduced by Paul Suciu in the Great Hall. We have such great memories of I-House and have gained life-long friends from our years there. We have been married 22 years and have 3 children."
Hidefumi Yamagami writes, "As a general manager and chief economist of the Research Division of the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi, I am trying to find an exit route for the stagnated Japanese economy."
