81st Birthday of International House

Marked with 500+ New Residents and Launch of New Website

I-House Circa 1930s
August 18th, 2011 - Today hundreds of UC Berkeley students from over sixty countries will settle into the iconic dome-topped residence and program center at 2299 Piedmont Avenue known as "I-House."

They arrive on the day which also heralds the 81st Anniversary of this unique institution dedicated to cross-cultural connections, and the debut of a colorful, interactive new website serving residents, campus, the local community, and 40K+ alumni worldwide.

The new website at ihouse.berkeley.edu was designed over the past seven months with a team of professionals who volunteered their services pro-bono through the SF based Taproot Foundation. It allows for better communication with residents, alumni, and the community, while highlighting I-House's remarkable notable alumni.

Videos and podcasts will expand the ways the broader community can appreciate the insights of thought-leaders that I-House attracts.

A new membership program also debuts with opportunities to support our non-profit which provides room and board scholarships to nearly 1 in 6 residents.

Since 2009, I-House has formalized trainings to share the expertise it has honed since 1930 as a nexus of cross-cultural learning. A four unit UC Berkeley course entitled Navigating Cultures will convene for the third year "under the dome" this fall, and our intercultural trainings and workshops will expand in 2012. You can learn more and view a video about I-House's remarkable 81 year history when you visit ihouse.berkeley.edu or visit the House's You Tube Channel at http://www.youtube.com/IHouseBerkeley.
