Dining Commons Transformation Project Construction Updates

With the conclusion of spring semester, general construction has resumed. We will update you as quickly as possible if and when things change.

Dining returns to I-House

As of Thursday, July 9th, all resident meals will be served at the I-House Dining Commons on the 2nd Floor. Residents will not have to go to the Stadium Field Club for meals.

As we transition back to our remodeled kitchen, box lunches will be available to pick up during breakfast 7:15 - 9:30 am and lunch 11:30 am - 1:30 pm in the Dining Commons on July 9th and 10th.

Patio Improvements

  • New granite countertop BBQ area equipped with a natural gas 6 burner grill and stainless steel sink
  • New stem mounted adjustable head LED fixture to light cooking area during evening hours
  • New electrical outlets on exterior wall to accommodate food warmer units for future buffet lines
  • New exterior lighting to allow extended evening dining use of Outdoor Patio area
  • Minor repair of brick pavers and adjustment of mechanical equipment on north side to address circulation through Outdoor Patio
  • Over the next few weeks Plant Construction and Lazar Landscaping will be pruning the trees

Access/Shutdowns

  • Due to ongoing construction the music practice rooms are closed indefinitely. Please consider using the practice Department of Music’s practice rooms, located in Morrison Hall. Click here for more information.
  • Access to the back-of-house from the loading dock will be limited to construction personnel
  • Contractors will commence terminating mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and fire alarm services to the kitchen, servery, dining service restrooms, lockers and dining office
  • Barricades will be erected adjacent to the service elevator at both corridors.
  • Finish protection will be installed in the dining rooms and service corridors leading to the construction
  • During the demolition, only authorized personnel will be permitted inside the construction zones which will be clearly defined by signage

Sound and noises

  • Concrete and rebar work may cause noise and vibrations in some parts of the building
  • Demolition work will include intermittent loud demolition, cutting of concrete and jack hammering noise from 9 am to 6 pm, Monday through Friday, and perhaps some weekends

 

Smells, dust, debris

  • There will be dust in construction areas which we will seek to contain as much as possible, in accordance with health and safety protocols
  • EH&S is carrying out ongoing testing at all hours to monitor for anything unsafe. All test samples have been clear of any signs of trouble. Any issues found would be remediated.

 

Visual

  • Plant Construction and other sub contractors will be on-site
  • There will be signage surrounding the project will include the DCTP logo
