Why Give to I-House?

I-House Residents

Although International House generates 80% of its annual budget as a self-supporting, 501c3 non-profit organization, we face a basic reality: room and board fees do not cover fundamental expenses.

To ensure the House remains socio-economically as well as culturally diverse, we rely on philanthropic support to provide scholarships, to preserve and protect our historic home, and allow for innovation in programming. This support is key to fulfilling our mission: To foster intercultural respect and understanding, lifelong friendships and leadership skills for the promotion of a more tolerant and peaceful world.

How Do Gifts to I-House Make a "World of Difference"?

Gifts to I-House over the past decade have made possible:
  • More than 700 scholarships benefiting recipients – each with promise equal to that of the notable I-House alumni that preceded them, including seven Nobel prize winners.
  • Dozens of critical seismic and safety upgrades to our 240,000 square foot historic building serving 600-1,000+ people daily.
  • Thousands of public-access lectures, films, musical and dance performances representing dozens of distinct cultural perspectives from around the world.
  • One hundred endowments that support I-House scholars and their future achievements, programs to garner attention to critical issues of the day, and critical care for a historic home that makes all our work possible.

Consider the four key areas of need profiled below, along with special Naming, Membership and Donor Recognition opportunities.

You are welcome to "Give Your Way" - by check, one-time or multi-year pledge, wire transfer, EFT, credit or debit card (including recurring gifts), stock, or planned gift. Download the Pledge Form (pdf).
