International House is a program and residential center that welcomes U.S. and overseas students. Located in the southeast foothills of the Berkeley campus, the historic and architecturally striking House affords a commanding view of the entire San Francisco Bay Area. It is within walking distance of the central campus classrooms and libraries, recreational facilities, and Berkeley commercial areas.

During the Summer Sessions, you will spend your residency at International House living with a diverse group of residents including graduate students, teachers, laboratory researchers, Elderhostelers, visiting scholars, and exchange students from around the world.

There is a limited amount of double rooms for the upcoming sessions past June 21, 2009. Please take this into consideration before applying to International House.

We are currently full for Session D. All applicants for Session D will be put on the waiting list.

The Resident Computer Center provides both Apple and IBM compatible computers, laser printers, a variety of updated software and high speed access to the internet. There are also study lounges on every floor.

Restrooms and showers are shared on the hall. Floors are coed, but restrooms and showers are single sex. Rooms are completely furnished with a phone, beds, dressers, desks, desk lamps and chairs.

Other amenities include a Laundromat, a resident fax machine, and a small store where residents can buy souvenirs and sundries or rent equipment such as TV's, VCR's, and typewriters. Finally, International House provides around the clock security for your peace of mind.

Laptop computers are available for rental to residents at the Resident Service Center, subject to availability. Please read the Residential Computing webpage for more information about computing at I-House.

For entertainment the House has three television areas, a game room, pianos, ping pong tables, and a variety of sports equipment and games. Conference rooms and a kitchenette are available for resident initiated events, and the International Cafe is open seven days a week for meeting friends over coffee.

...plus many other creative opportunities to share your background and interests with others.

Early Arrival Requests:
You may request to arrive early at an additional cost for all sessions except session A and session "A&D." Only a limited number of single rooms will be available for early arrival requests.

Early arrivals must be requested only upon receipt of a housing contract from International House and paid for when you return the International House contract.
Construction:
Summer construction work will begin in selected restrooms and shower rooms on the 4th and 5th floors in late May and continue through the middle of September. Intermittent noise will be heard in various parts of the building Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. through 6:00 p.m. As a rule, there will be no construction work in the evenings or on most weekends. The UC Berkeley Stadium Project is also under construction next door and has some noise associated with it. Please consider this inconvenience when you are applying for summer residency.

If you have any questions or should you want information about shorter stays, please contact the Admissions Office.
