Bay Area Hosts Needed
Want to deepen your knowledge of a longtime favorite culture, or learn about new cultures to add them to your favorites? The best way to probe beyond websites and tour guides is by befriending one or more of our UCB international students and scholars for casual daytime socializing. We can suggest potential hostees to you, or you can choose them yourself based on shared interests. After initial contact is made, the activities pursued and timing are up to you and your hostee(s). Whatever you and they do together will offer insights into their cultures and yours, will help your hostees derive more from American life, and will leave you with long-term friends to visit in other countries. For more information, please check out the host application, complete it and email to David Gilliam, Hosting Coordinator (ihprograms@berkeley.edu).
For International Students/Scholars
A Host or Host Family can show you the Bay Area and explain American society in a clear, revealing and highly enjoyable way. The I-House Program Office matches students and scholars with local community Hosts based on shared interests. After that, activities and meeting timing are entirely up to you and your Host(s). Fun days together spent on picnics, sightseeing, museums or sports events will relax you, clarify your images of American life, and leave you with wonderful friends and memories. Please come to the Program Office for more information, or complete the student application and email it to David Gilliam, Hosting Coordinator at ihprograms@berkeley.edu to enroll in our International Friendship Program (daytime hosting only; I-House residency not necessary). |
