Davis Projects for Peace is an initiative for students to design their own grassroots projects for the period of May through September 2012 - anywhere in the world. Applicants are encouraged to use creative and innovative techniques for engaging participants in ways that focus on conflict resolution, reconciliation, building understanding, breaking down barriers, and finding solutions for resolving conflict and maintaining peace.  Two projects and possible working alternatives will be selected for funding at $10,000 each. The I-House Initiative in Intercultural Leadership
Pilot Program Spring Semester 2012
I-House will be offering 20 select residents the opportunity to participate in this pilot program. The structure will be that of a professional development opportunity not an academic class, offering participants with access to the opportunities below:

• Intercultural Effectiveness assessment with individualized results and consultation
• Five required 2 hour workshops held one Thursday evening per month, Jan. - May 2012
• 2-3 supplemental intercultural activities (to be chosen by individual participant)
• One off-site 2-day retreat on Saturday, January 28- Sunday, January 29, 2012
• Optional mentorship with an I-House Board Member/ Distinguished Alumnus
• Option to earn a Letter of Recommendation from Ambassador Martin Brennan
• Closing Celebration in May 2012

Each participant who completes the program requirements will be awarded an I-House Certificate in Intercultural Leadership. To apply for the program, please fill out the application you received by e-mail and submit it to: breidit@berkeley.edu by November 30th, 2011 at 4 pm.

Don't Be Home Alone on Thanksgiving! Participate in the Host Family Program
Be included in this unique American holiday even if you don't know many Americans. The I-House Program Office coordinates with local families who would like to welcome international students and scholars to their homes for Thanksgiving dinner. Simply e-mail Eugenia Hirsch (eugeniah@berkeley.edu) with the following info:

1. Home address/Tel/E-mail and whether you have access to a car (not required)
2. Country and gender
3. Study field and grad or undergrad
4. If you have children, their ages

Please e-mail soon!  There's a limited number of host families and this program is popular, I-House cannot guarantee hosting, but they'll do all they can and advise you.  I-House also has a similar program for year-end holiday hosting for which you can apply in early to mid-December.

Peace Dove Art Contest
The I-House Art and Photo Club present this wonderful annual contest to ring in the Holiday Season! The dove and art materials will be provided or you may bring your own art supplies to work with.
First prize: $75 gift certificate
Second prize: $50 gift certificate
Third prize: $25 gift certificate
The first prize dove will be displayed in our I-House Glass case and used on the I-House Website! Register to join the contest at the Program Office or at peacedoveartcontest.eventbrite.com . Winners will be announced by e-mail. All the beautifully decorated doves will adorn the Holiday tree in the Great Hall.
