Calling I-House Home: Resident Retreats

Held at Green Mountain Retreat, these overnight retreats are designed to welcome residents into I-House's unique global community through cultural exchange, group activities, and intercultural skill-building. Previous residents have voted the Resident Retreat the most effective and fun way to meet fellow residents and make new friends, all while enjoying the great outdoors! The registration includes all transportation, overnight lodging, and meals. Still not convinced? Check out this brief resident video and photos from past retreats!

You will receive a pre-retreat prep email the week of the retreat, so please check your inbox.

Day 1 - Break Out of Your Comfort Zone

10:30 AM Check in at Chevron Auditorium and board the bus with all of your belongings

1:30 PM Arrive at Green Mountain Retreat

Day 2 - Take the Learning Back to I-House

10:30 AM Load the bus and leave the retreat site

12:00 PM Arrive at I-House

We ask for your patience and understanding if we have to adjust our retreat schedule to accommodate for the weather.

Food: Day 1 lunch and dinner and day 2 breakfast is included and catered by Green Mountain retreat with vegan and vegetarian options. There will be plentiful snacks available throughout the day and on the bus rides. When you register, please indicate any food allergies or restrictions. 

Sleeping Arrangements: Accommodations are in a room that sleeps 2-4 people. There will be cabins designated for men and women as well as a gender-inclusive rooms. Blankets, pillows, and sheets are included.

Frequently asked questions

How much do I pay?

This event is free and for I-House residents only.

What happens if I am late for the bus?

You will miss the retreat. We start check-in at Chevron Auditorium at 10:00 a.m. The buses leave at 10:30 a.m. We will NOT wait for late people.

What should I bring?

Cal ID, Water bottle, Toiletries, Outdoor clothes and shoes (clothes that can get wet/dirty) Recommended: sunscreen, bug repellent, hat, snacks, swimwear. Bedding, linens, pillows, and towels will be provided.

Can I smoke cigarettes?

Green Mountain Retreat is a smoke-free environment. Smoking is not permitted within public spaces, conference rooms, guest rooms, amphitheater, dining hall, or pool area.

How should I dress?

We advise you to dress practical and casual: be prepared for a hot day and a cool night.

What does I-House provide for the retreats?

I-House covers all the cost of transportation, food, and lodging, as well as staff labor. In addition, I-House will bring some sports equipment, board games, and some educational and recreational activities.

How will I benefit from attending a Retreat?

You will learn how to optimize your stay at I-House and gain a clearer understanding of the I-House Mission. Most importantly, the retreat is designed to facilitate new global friendships through intercultural exchange within our diverse community.

What is the retreat site like?

Green Mountain Retreat is located in the Santa Cruz Mountains – a short drive from San Jose. There is a dormitory for all participants, with rooms that sleep 2-4 people (bedding and linens provided). For more information, please visit https://www.greenmountainretreat.com/about/.

What are the facilities available at the retreat venue?

Facilities at retreat: swimming pool, basketball courts, hiking trails, lawn games.

What is the food like?

Vegetarian and vegan options will be available and any items containing pork will be marked. Please email Resident Life if you have any other dietary needs that we should be aware of.
