Who Lives at International House Berkeley?

Our resident selection process looks for UC Berkeley students and scholars who want to actively engage in the I-House community and carry our mission forward as leaders working toward a more just and peaceful world. As part of the application, we invite applicants to reflect on their interest in our mission. Supported by a global network of alumni, residents develop the cultural awareness, empathy, and resilience needed to lead thoughtfully in an increasingly complex world.

A Truly Global Community

Twenty percent of I-House residents are from the United States, while the remaining 80% are international students, representing more than 70 countries around the world.

Diverse Academic Backgrounds

Residents are evenly split between undergraduate and graduate (and beyond) students and represent a wide range of academic disciplines across the UC Berkeley campus.

Visiting Scholars & Cohorts

Many I-House residents are part of exchange programs such as UCEAP, BISP, full-time degree and certificate programs through UC Extension, or UC Berkeley affiliates.
