Dear I-House Community,
Every fall, I'm reminded why resident leadership is so central to what we do at I-House. This year, we welcomed an exceptional group of student leaders who are already making their mark: our newly elected Resident Community Council members, program leads, marketing leads, resident advisors, and front desk assistants. You can meet them and learn more about their work at ihouse.berkeley.edu/resident-leadership.
Each group plays a distinct role in our community. The Resident Community Council helps promote an inclusive environment and create fun events that foster community Program leads design the cultural, educational, and social events that bring us together. Marketing leads share our story and keep residents connected and informed about what's happening across the house. Resident advisors provide peer support and foster inclusive floor communities. Front desk assistants are often the first friendly face residents encounter each day.
Many of you reading this served in similar capacities during your time here, and you know firsthand how transformative these experiences can be. Leading a diverse community of 600 residents from more than 70 countries requires navigating different perspectives, building consensus across cultures, and solving problems in real time. These aren't skills you learn in a classroom — our residents develop them through the daily work of bringing people together, mediating conflicts, and creating programs that resonate across backgrounds.
This kind of leadership development advances our mission of nurturing global leaders with the cross-cultural intelligence and practical skills needed to build a more peaceful world. Your ongoing support makes these opportunities possible, and we are deeply grateful for it.
Best wishes,
