Resident Resources

Welcome new and returning residents!

Below are resident support services and resources tailored just for residents. Be sure to read our New Resident FAQs page.

Resident Handbook

The Resident Handbook is a crucial tool for understanding the operational structure of International House. It serves as an inclusive guide, covering a wide range of topics including policies, amenities, available resources, and appropriate contacts. Whether it's a routine inquiry or a specific concern, the handbook offers extensive information on all aspects related to International House.

Conflict Mediation

In the event of any conflict arising between roommates or residents within International House, we encourage you to promptly seek assistance from the Resident Advisor (RA) assigned to your floor. The RA is trained to facilitate a mediation process, wherein a structured conversation takes place between you and the other resident involved. The purpose of this mediation is to address the conflict and work toward a mutually agreeable resolution. If immediate assistance is required, please contact the RA on duty at +1(510)282-0092. In cases where additional support from a professional staff member is necessary, you may reach out to the Resident Support Manager at rss@ihouseberkeley.org. Rest assured, our team is dedicated to ensuring a harmonious living environment for all residents at International House.

Counseling Services

Life in a multicultural setting can be exciting but it can also be stressful. The competitive nature of Berkeley academics and the pressures of being far from home may also add to a person’s feelings of confusion, alienation and/or misunderstanding. Counseling — speaking about personal issues with someone who is not a friend or family member — is a widely accepted practice in the United States and in other parts of the world. Many residents from cultures unfamiliar with the concept of counseling find speaking with a licensed professional extremely helpful in dealing with the challenges of life at UC Berkeley.

UC Berkeley registered students have access to free counseling and mental health services. To learn more, please visit https://uhs.berkeley.edu/capsor https://uhs.berkeley.edu/mental-health

Confidential Resources

Reporting can be a complicated and intensely personal decision. Survivors are encouraged to consult a confidential resource about reporting options and processes. The PATH to Care Center offers confidential support. Survivors have the right to be accompanied by an advocate during all stages of reporting and investigation. Advocates can also assist with supportive measures for survivors. For urgent 24/7 support, call the Care Line at 510-643-2005. For more information, see Support for Survivors.

Requests for medical housing accommodations can be completed via this Accommodation Request form. Health Worker Program

The Health Worker Program is an initiative that aims to foster a culture of health and well-being within the residential community. Committed to promoting healthy practices at both the personal and community levels, this peer health education program emphasizes self-care, risk management, and the utilization of UHS health care services. Operating both independently and collaboratively, Health Workers serve as valuable resources. To connect with the Health Workers assigned to your house, kindly refer to the informational flyers available on the bulletin board and in the bathrooms.
