The I-House Connection -  June 2020

Message to the International House Community
from International House Board Vice-Chair Jamy Faulhaber

On behalf of the Board of Directors, I wish to convey our sincerest thanks and appreciation for your support during these challenging times. I also want to thank Dr. Hans Giesecke who retires today after eight years at the helm of International House. He leaves a legacy of many achievements for which we are all extremely grateful.

As you know the Board has been engaged in a search over the last months to identify a new Executive Director. We hope that we will be able to welcome a new leader very soon. In the interim, I am pleased to announce that Bill Gong, Director of Business and Finance, has been appointed as Acting Executive Director during the transition period while maintaining his usual duties. Standing against Racism and Injustice

A Message from The Robertson Center for Intercultural Leadership (CIL)

Our hearts are broken as we witness, along with all of you, more violence and death inflicted upon Black Americans, more pain and suffering and anguish, all the result of systemic racism and anti-Blackness.

Like so many others, we at CIL are taking a look, individually and collectively, at the ways in which we have been complicit in supporting an unjust system, and we are committed to creating a more just system — through our work at CIL, and in all aspects of our lives.

Resident Podcast Series
From All Corners: Under the Dome

Created during the time of COVID-19 by the Program Office, an I-House podcast Under the Dome helped residents feel the community of being under the I-House dome — even if they were in different places across the globe. Throughout the 2020 spring semester, the Program Office chatted with fifteen I-House residents who brought the I-House experience to life by sharing stories such as favorite I-House memories, family traditions, and more.

In an email that Grace sent with the graphic above, Grace wrote:

"While the pandemic is severe and we are forced to stay home, none of you is left behind. With the I-House spirit in mind, we want to do our best to make you feel our care and support from the other side of the Pacific and strengthen international friendships. Together, we will go through this.

Love,

I-House Class of 2019 - 2020 Final Snap

In May, residents provided photos of themselves to be included in this virtual variation of the traditional front steps group photo, created by our talented social media ambassador, Chan'Cellore Makanjuola.

International House 2019 - 2020

When Chan'Cellore learned that residents wouldn’t be able to gather together for the traditional photo, she knew she wanted to do something to keep the tradition alive. This photo is proof of that. Spring 2020 will be a semester for the history books, and we hope they all cherish the memories and friendships they made during their time at I-House. For a wonderful look back, please read, A Semester Like No Other: An I-House Berkeley Spring 2020 Recap.
