In collaboration with the UC Berkeley Graduate Division, International House offers Gateway Fellowships, providing Academic Year awards to graduate students at UC Berkeley. Priority is given to new incoming students who demonstrate financial need.
Award recipients receive a full academic year of single-occupancy room and board at International House, tuition and fees covered by their academic department, along with a $5,000 stipend from the University of California Graduate Division. To qualify for this award, applicants must be admitted to UC Berkeley for the upcoming academic year, be able to reside in a single-occupancy room at International House, and be nominated by their academic department. For more information, visit ihouse.berkeley.edu/gateway.
Graduate students who are returned Peace Corps students and international students who are citizens of or have a strong connection to Egypt, Saudi Arabia, or Norway are especially sought to best meet donor preferences. Ph.D. students in physics or astrophysics or related (U.S. or international) are also sought.
We begin accepting nominations in January with a priority preference deadline of March 1. Nominations may be submitted on a rolling basis through April 1 if all Gateway priority preferences have not been satisfied.
