Forge Memorable Relationships
The I-House Host Family Program was created to forge memorable relationships between I-House residents and families through the simple, yet invaluable, gift of friendship. The program will connect I-House residents with a family from the San Francisco Bay Area, with recent alumni, or with families of recent alumni.
The time commitment is up to families and their assigned residents, but we expect residents and families to check in at least twice per month or a total of six times throughout the Fall 2024 semester, which spans September to November of 2024. The time commitment is small, but the rewards are great for both residents and families!
For International House Residents
Once you’ve been connected with your family, you may gather virtually to play board games, watch movies, chat about your backgrounds, and talk about transitioning to I-House. We are certain that however you and your family decide to spend your time together, it will offer a deeper understanding of your culture and theirs!
Please note that while career guidance and network opportunities may be by-products of participation in this program, the main goal is to establish ties and make new friends. If your primary interest is professional advancement, we encourage you to participate in the professional and career-development programs of the Robertson Center for Intercultural Leadership (RCILP). You will receive notifications of these programs as they are scheduled.

“Family” is a very broad term: we welcome single people, spouses, partners, roommates, children, pets, and more! Participating in this program is a great opportunity to learn more about new cultures and help our residents build community during their stay at I-House. Please note that we will do our best to accommodate you with a resident from a region that matches your preferences, but may be unable to do so.
