Dear I-House Community,

Reading, Review, and Recitation (RRR) Week is long in the rearview mirror, and finals week is just ending. Already, the I-House community is experiencing bittersweet departures for those finishing their time here.  As we close out this calendar year and look to the next, it is also a time of reflection. As Executive Director, I am proud of where we are and where we are going as an institution and as a global network. The outstanding efforts of staff and the loyal and generous support of alumni and friends continue to keep the I-House dream alive amidst the turmoil and challenges facing the world. Thank you! 

In this issue of the I-House Connection, I encourage you to mark your calendars to “save the date” for some exciting events. The Lodestar Executive Director’s Speakers Series, the Celebration and Awards Gala, Big Give, the International Cultures Festival, and our 2024 All Years Alumni Reunion are just a few of our upcoming activities – please do join us again here at I-House! 

I also hope that you will enjoy reading a fun Global Community Ambassador piece in this issue: “California Dreaming” by Sanidhya Rao, recounting a recent road trip he took with three fellow I-House residents.

California Dreaming: Chronicles of an Epic Road Trip

As the crisp autumn air settled over the West Coast, Thanksgiving heralded a time of gratitude and reflection, tracing its roots back to the early 17th century when Pilgrims and Native Americans joined in a feast to celebrate a bountiful harvest. Fast forward to the 21st century, and Thanksgiving has evolved into a cherished American tradition, where families gather around tables laden with turkey and pumpkin pie. However, for college students, this holiday signifies more than just a time for family reunions. It’s a golden opportunity to break free from the rigors of academia, as campuses empty out and friends embark on adventures together. This year, Thanksgiving took three of my fellow I-House residents and me through the picturesque charm of Santa Barbara, the sun-kissed landscapes of San Diego, and the vibrant streets of Los Angeles.
