Resident Advisors

The Resident Advisor (RA) is responsible for student support services, safety and security, peer advising, policy implementation, crisis intervention, conflict mediation, community development, and administrative procedures. The RAs adhere to, implement, and uphold policies and the I-House Resident Handbook. The Resident Advisor serves as a resource to residents, promotes the values and mission of the International House, and encourages personal, social, and academic development of our residents.

RA’s can be reached by calling (510) 282-0092 for emergencies after the Front Desk closes. 

If you are interested in applying to be an RA, applications open in November and close in January.

Resident Advisor for I-House Berkeley

Eligibility

This is a full academic year position, Summer – Spring semester. RAs are required to have registered status at UC Berkeley except when accepting RA employment during the summer term and if they are registered during the prior spring semester. They may not be registered during the spring semester if they graduated the prior fall semester.

Registered undergraduate or graduate student possessing a minimum 2.300 cumulative GPA and in good standing with the University at the time of application and throughout the period of employment. Please note that GPA does not round up. Having a GPA of 2.299 or below will make you ineligible for the position.

Full-time academic status (minimum 12-13 units per semester) during period of employment. Exceptions must have prior approval.

RA job is a 49% per week position. In this position, RAs are required to work an average of 19.5 hours per week.

Kayla Leung

Hey there! I'm Kayla and I was born and raised in Manhattan, New York City. At Cal, I'm an undergrad junior majoring in Molecular and Cell Biology, specializing in Immunology. My academic passions include anything related to biotech, healthcare, business development, and finance. I'm currently working on founding a biotech startup and closing our 2nd round of funding, On the side, I love exploring new cities, playing soccer, bodyboarding, and cooking > 24-hour projects.I'm hyped to meet all of you and share the stories from our respective home countries. 

Teo Lin-Bianco

Hi all! My name is Teo, I have been at Cal for four years, and I am studying environmental economics and dance. I am from Los Angeles, California, and am learning Spanish to connect with my family from Madrid. On campus, I enjoy being a part of dance organizations and queer spaces. Come say hi if you want to grab pastries at Timeless Coffee or go climbing at Mosaic!

Paige Lyles

Hello, Merhaba, Servus! My name is Paige and I am one of your 3rd floor RAs. My intercultural upbringing includes heritage from the United States, Türkiye, and Germany I am in my final year of studies here at UC Berkeley and wil be earning my B.S. in chill engineering. On campus, I have been involved in the construction club, undergraduate research in concrete, and most recently the start-up founder community, In my free time I love to be outdoors or on a stage performing. If I could recommend two spots on campus for food, I would say Yifang has the best boba and Agradolce Osteria has the best Italian food. Looking forward to meeting you all!

Amir Mohiuddin

I'm Amir, your 3rd-floor Resident Assistant! A proud Angeleno with German, Italian, and Pakistani roots, I'm studying Computer Science, Economics, and Biology. In my free time, I love playing chess, tennis, and ping pong. You'll often find me at the gym, hiking with my dog, or strumming my guitar. When I'm not moving to the rhythm of salsa music, I'm lost in an intriguing short story. As your RA, my goal is to ensure your university experience is positive, comfortable, and memorable. So, whether you want to join in on an activity, need advice, or just want to chat, my door is always open.

Sofia Abey Schnurer

I'm Sofia (she/her) and I'm an RA on the 4th floor! It is my 4th year at Berkeley and my academic interests include human rights research and international law. My majors are Political Economy as well as Middle Eastern Languages and Culture.
I'm mixed Afghan, Austrian, and Southwest Native/Hispanic but I grew up in San Diego and Los Angeles. I thoroughly enjoy meeting new people and trying something new-whether that be through travel, music, sports, or food. It is my goal that you have an amazing time at Berkeley! Welcome to I House!

Mark Williams Jr.

Wassup Y'all! I'm Mark, one of your 4th-floor RAs. I'm a second-year Joint Ph.D. student in Medical Anthropology here at Cal and UCSF (ask me about it, and you won't be bored!) I was born and raised in NYC (the greatest city in the world), and can give you the insider's scoop on how best to enjoy it if you're ever there!
Here in the Bay Area though you can catch me holding down the beautiful Erskine A. Peters Reading Room of the African American Studies Department (Rm 675 Social Sciences Building), or hosting Tuesday Trivia Nights @ Edmond's Cafe, before Taco Tuesday shenanigans 33.

Adam Brownell

Hi everyone! I’m one of your fifth floor RA’s. I am a pre-law student majoring in Rhetoric. I was born and raised in Orange County, California. I am a writing tutor in the rhetoric department and an undergraduate researcher at Berkeley Law. Most of my time is spent studying for the LSAT and reading classics. However, I am also a drummer and spend a significant amount of time in the music room! I spent a few years in Costa Rica, so I can speak Spanish at an intermediate level and I am hoping to visit Korea in the near future. I am always open to talking and exchanging ideas! Andreea Mateescu

I am Andreea Mateescu, and I am one of the 5th floor RAs. I have lived in California, Romania, and England, and am fluent in Romanian and speak a bit of French, and I am currently learning Italian. I really enjoy reading and dancing, hearing and telling stories, and running/gym-ing. I am going into my 3rd year of undergraduate studies, and I am double majoring in Rhetoric and Film and Media.  Looking forward to meeting everyone this year.

Jaqueline Borcea

Buna, Bonjour & Hola! I'm Jaquelyn and I'm an undergrad senior majoring in Cognitive Science and minoring in Data Science. My academic passions include anything related to neuroscience, psychology, and healthcare. I'm also a ballroom dance instructor, so if you ever want to learn how to dance let me know! I love hiking, sunsets, and working out. I can't wait to learn more about all of your cultures and home countries and hopefully share them with you all at I House this year.

William Kayitare

Hello everyone! Welcome to the house! I am William, serving as one of your lead RAs on the 6th floor. I am a Ph.D. student in the chemistry department. I am originally from Rwanda by way of Pittsburgh, PA. Outside of academics, I enjoy playing basketball, and music as well as discussing philosophical theology. I'm looking forward to meeting you and hearing about your culture, passions, and interests.

Nicolás Lezaca

I'm Nicolas, one of the RAs on the 7th floor. I am a law student (J.S.D) interested in antitrust law and social justice. I am from Colombia and grew up in the Andes mountains. I love to swim, dance, and play soccer. Always down to hike, beach trips, and music festivals. Welcome to I-House and enjoy your time in Berkeley!

Carina Samson

Hello everyone! I’m Carina, one of your 7th floor RAs, and I’m a senior undergraduate student in Data Science and Psychology here at Cal! I was born in the Philippines and raised in Japan for most of my life, so I do resonate with both cultures. You may have seen me on I-House social media as I also worked as a Global Community Ambassador over the summer! On campus, you can find me working as a Research Assistant at the Bishop Lab, leading counseling workshops as the President of the Student-to-Student Peer Counseling club, or sailing (and likely capsizing) in the Berkeley Marina. If you ever need someone to talk to about anything, from life struggles to anime, do find me! Always down to chat over coffee–I’m a huge My Coffee Roastery fan! Excited to meet all of you!

Jordan Chastain

Hi everyone! I’m Jordan, your 8th floor RA. I’m a senior undergraduate majoring in Chemical Biology with a minor in Earth & Planetary Science. I am also an undergraduate researcher with the Plant & Microbial Biology department. I spend most of my free time working on graduate school applications and reading academic papers at Yali’s (best strawberry smoothies ever!), but I also love to stargaze, hike around the Bay Area, and dance to Taylor Swift music! I grew up in Tampa, Florida, and I’m currently teaching myself Mandarin - I’m not quite good enough to hold a conversation but I’m working on it!
